IMG_0156_300x300My first time skiing was at Arrowhead Mountain in the Michigan U.P. I was five years old and my parents bought tin skis with round edges from the Holiday gas station near our home. No dangerous sharp edges and no way to control those things, so I spent the day skiing whirly-birds down the bunny hill! Skiing has been my passion since that day.

I grew up in Minneapolis and skied the local areas – mostly Afton Alps and Buck Hill (Afton was not really the alps and Buck was hardly a hill!). However, I only grew more passionate about alpine skiing – many cold nights under the lights training with the Washburn High School team. In 1981 I moved to Boulder for college and continued racing with the CU club team.

As school and work became a bigger part of my life, I drifted away from skiing. In 2008 I introduced my own kids to skiing and we quickly found the EMSC community. I began coaching and Drew and Connor started in the Jr Race program. That was seven years ago and they’re still racing with the club and I’m still coaching!

I am a USSA Level 200 certified coach and I have coached at both the Jr Race and Core program levels. I am a strong believer in the notion that great racers come from great free skiers and I’m passionate about helping young athletes develop the fundamental base necessary to compete.

I’m looking forward to another season of sun, powder, wind, hot chocolate, smiles, jokes, adventure and lots of fast skiing!
